English Language & Literature
In the first year, you will study language and literature using an Anthology of literary and non-literary texts and study two chosen texts. Further study focuses upon the ways in which different writers have approached similar subjects and the ways in which language and style are affected by change over time and contextual variation. There is a creative writing element in the transformation and adaptation of one of your chosen texts in the exam.
In the second year, an element of non-exam assessment is added as a means of applying the knowledge, understanding and insights gained from literary and linguistic studies to complete an investigation into connections between texts. You will demonstrate the use of appropriate terminology and the relevance of contextual influence when analysing further set texts which will include a Drama text and a second novel.
