Elective Programme
At Kesgrave we feel it is important that our students have opportunities that will enable them to have a well-rounded experience of sixth form life. All Year 12 students can choose an elective option from our programme alongside their subjects. Some of which carry additional qualifications & others allow students to develop a new skill or offer support to lower school students.
Students on 3 subjects will take either:
EPQ – The Extended Project Qualification is where students are required to complete their own project on a topic of their choice, using a variety of resources and skills which they will be taught by the EPQ coordinator. They are required to either create an artefact or a written report. In terms of UCAS points it is worth half an A-Level, and they will learn how to work independently on their own project. Highly received by universities.
Level Up – This programme gives students the opportunity to build new skills around key areas: employability, life skills and social action. The level up programme will allow them to build their work readiness and boots their CV, builds independence and have a positive impact on the world.
These sessions will be on students’ timetables once a week.
ALL students must take 1 of the following:
These sessions will take place once a fortnight
1. Adopt a teacher
2. Student ambassador & committee member
3. Sports ambassador
4. Numeracy ambassador
5. Student support mentor
6. Acclaim
7. Work experience / volunteering
8. DofE Gold
9. Sixth Form Science ambassador
Whatever you go on to do after Sixth Form, it is always good to have a point of difference on your CV or UCAS application, and this opportunity allows students to explore and develop outside the normal constraints of an academic environment.
