I strongly believe that parents and the wider community should work together with schools to provide our children/young adults with the best education and learning experiences possible. To support this view, I therefore volunteered to become a governor at the school with 4 children all hoping to join the school. The role is immensely rewarding and I am keen to ensure that our pupils are always the reason for any decisions. It can involve very difficult decision making including decisions on finances, staff and pupils. Outside the school, I am chairperson and lead coach for Suffolk Coastal Torpedoes Water Polo club and also have 2 of my children very active in the sailing world as well as being Mum to my girls and working fulltime!!

Enabling Excellence Committee

After completing my own secondary school and then sixth form education at Kesgrave from 1999-2006 I graduated in Comparative Literature and Slavonic Studies from the University of Glasgow. I returned to Suffolk to complete my English PGCE and came ‘home’ to Kesgrave High School as a teacher in 2012. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kesgrave as both a student and staff member and value the school’s sense of community. As well as teaching English my current role is Head of Media. Outside of school I am kept busy by my young daughter as well as being club secretary for a local football team Trimley Athletic, but when I find time for myself I enjoy supporting the local independent Riverside cinema in Woodbridge, reading and travelling.

Having worked at Kesgrave High School for nearly twenty years I have gained some invaluable experiences in many roles. The role of Teacher-Governor is the ideal opportunity for me to share my values and support the wider development of the school. I hope to ensure we continue our growth in reading, literacy and communication, as well as championing the well-being of students and staff. As a member of the Kesgrave community I will also be looking forward to my own children starting their education here in the next two years.

Admissions & Enabling Excellence Committees

My time as governor at Kesgrave started in 2010 as my children started to move up to the high school. I’m a governor at Gorseland Primary school, a post I’ve held since 2004. Between the two schools I’ve held various posts including chair of finance committee, chair of curriculum committee, vice-chair and chair; all roles which have given me a fascinating insight into both schools.

I work full-time in telecommunications, leading a team of 20 professional engineers and mathematicians, using our technical and analytical skills to optimise the design and operation of communication networks. I also manage a capital investment budget of over £200m a year.

When time permits I enjoy photography and reading, I have plans to trek some of the local long distance walking routes, if my knees will let me.

Enabling Excellence Committee

I have lived in Kesgrave since October 2000 as we felt it would be a good move for our then young children (now 19 and 22yrs old) to have more freedom and enjoy the cycle ways to and from school. Both went to Kesgrave High School and completed the Sixth Form and I have always had complete faith in the school and it’s ability to give them a good start in life.

I work in education myself and appreciate the difficulties schools sometime face. I have been a parent governor and now a community governor for the past 15 years also serving Cedarwood Primary School at the same time for a while.

I have been married to Paul for 24 years who is a great support to me.
