The policy of the school is for all students to be entered for GCSEs. Where doubts arise in terms of ability or performance, matters are discussed with both students and parents.

At present, GCSE Courses have a number of important aims:

  • To produce a national system giving an assessment of the same reliability across the whole country.
  • To move away from the learning of large masses of information, towards acquiring skills of research, reasoning and analysis. These skills may be applied not just to work in school but to work and life in general.
  • To assess positive achievement and show what children CAN DO rather than what they have failed at.
  • To provide children with opportunities via Course and Project work to develop confidence and be judged on their performance throughout the Course.
