Spring celebrations

May 5, 2023 6:24 am

The return after Easter has brought a busy schedule in all areas of school life. From new clubs and activities, to the culmination of hard work as examinations approach.

This week has seen us share our pride in our Year 11 students, as they enjoyed their Proud assembly, followed by letters from home. This cohort have come through so much in the last three years of their school life and now reach the end of this stage of their journey. As they prepare for the final hurdles, we wish them every success in the summer exams and look forward to seeing them back with us in the Sixth Form for the next chapter.

In our Sixth Form, students who undertook the Extended Project Qualification (an enrichment which sees students enter into their own research project, mirroring a university style of learning, supported by a personal mentor) completed presentations and submitted their outcome. From essays on the death penalty and the classics of literature to creating a computer programme and modelling the engineering of the millennium bridge, these were exceptional submissions. Students gain so much in readiness for university study, through this qualification, where the choice of topic is their own.

Also in the Sixth Form this week, our Leiston Football Programme, where students can study three A Level or BTEC courses alongside football coaching and development, played their last game of the season. Ending undefeated throughout, this really has been a great year for all the students. There are both male and female students who take part in this programme as an extra part of the Sixth Form diet and for some this has led to opportunities for study abroad in the year ahead.

In football news this week we have had five teams compete in the County Cup finals. With two matches left, we have two winners and one runners up. Well done to our Under 16 girls and Under 13 girls who end the season County Champions and to our Under 13 boys who played so well, but just missed the win. Good luck to our Boys and Girls Under 12 teams playing today.

Finally, well done to all our students who started examinations this week. Whether Year 10 in their mock series, Year 12 BTEC students or all those studying Art and Photography. It has been a busy week with more ahead.
