In remembrance

November 8, 2020 5:39 pm

Thank you to all our parents and carers for your confidence in us as the national lockdown period commenced last week. Student attendance remains high and we are so pleased that students are in school to share the learning experience with their peers and to receive support from their teachers face-to-face (albeit at a safe 2m distance!).

This week our Leadership Team assembly to all students is on the theme of compassion, linked to Remembrance Day. Last week a few students accompanied Mr Robinson to take part in a service recorded at Kesgrave All Saints Church, in collaboration with the Town Council and the Royal British Legion. We will undertake an Act of Remembrance in school on 11th November at 11.00am, along with others across the country. Our Head Boy and Girl will lay our wreath at the memorial at some point during the day, in line with the Town Council protocols. Our thanks go to all those who gave their lives for our freedom today.

Beyond the videos, further subject guidance will be available on the website shortly. Sixth Form applications will be open shortly and anyone interested in joining our Sixth Form externally should email our Sixth Form administrator, Mrs Smith, at 6thformoffice@kesgrave.suffolk.sch.uk for information on visits and applications.

Those parents and carers in Year 9 will have noticed that in our original school calendar we had scheduled to have a Parents’ Evening this week. We have invested in some new software to run Parents’ Evenings virtually, in order that we continue to make this important connection, however we will first use this with Year 13 on Tuesday 24 November. We hope after this to run other year groups in the same way and will reschedule the Year 9 event in a timely manner to coincide with the Options process.

This week Year 8 students will receive their first report of the academic year. This will include reflection on their attitude to learning and independent homework study, as well as their current attainment grade. We hope that our new academic attainment grading will be clearer to both students and their parents and allow us to see and celebrate students’ progression.
