Our Current Expedition - South Africa 2013

We are pleased to announce that for the summer of 2013 we will be visiting South Africa once again. Working in conjunction with GAP AFRICA PROJECTS a team of four staff and thirty four students from KHS will travel to the Shamwari Game Reserve and fully immerse themselves in the activities of one of the region’s top game reserves.

What is the expedition?

Shamwari 2013 is a year-long project that culminates in a unique experience in South Africa that will provide students with the opportunity to experience hands-on wildlife conservation whilst working behind the scenes on a game reserve.

Students will work directly with the reserve’s fully trained and experienced conservation team and have the opportunity to take part in important research projects, such as :

  • Predator Identification
  • Large herbivore tracking and monitoring
  • Hands on work at animal rehabilitation centre
  • Critical reserve maintenance
  • Wilderness experience
  • Bush survival skills
  • Game Drives
  • On foot tracking

  • Day to day activities will vary and the team will be able to specify preferred options as part of the developing project.
