Kwik Cricket Tournament

On Friday 20th May, 10 teams from 7 Primary schools came to Kesgrave High School for a superb, fun filled and entertaining afternoon of Kick Cricket. Apart from a little wind the conditions were perfect, parents and staff settled in for what proved to be a relaxing yet highly exciting atmosphere.

Year 10 boys: Track and Field cup team

The following boys competed in the first round of the English schools Track and Field cup competition at Bury St Edmunds. Each athlete had to compete in two events, with their times and distances being credited points towards a team total. The conditions were perfect, and the whole team performed superbly with fantastic support and encouragement for each other.

Outstanding performances were made by Harri Mortimore in the Discus, and Baribefe Vite in the Long jump and 400m and Tom Lusher in the 200m, but the highlight of the day was the relay team (Kyle Bryne, Tom Lusher, Jerome Wynne and Harri Mortimore), who won with a tremendous, convincing and professional display of sprinting and team work. Overall the boys finished 3rd, which is not quite enough to make it through to the next round. All the boys deserve huge credit for their efforts and conduct, it was a real pleasure to take them to such an event. Well done.

Sports Ambassadors

On 30th March, three of our four Sports Ambassadors, joined over 60 others’ from schools in the area to attend the latest conference at David Lloyd Health Club. The aim was to introduce the roles of being an Ambassador, and to learn how to put on a large scale event. The Ambassadors looked into what it takes to lead, communicate and inspire others’, and then developed their skills by leading each other in a fun Quadkids event. Later in the year, they will come together again to run a large scale version to around 400 primary school children at Northgate Athletics stadium. London 2012 was also at the heart of the day, learning about the Olympics and it’s impact on us as a nation, as well as in our locals communities and schools. Ambassadors then looked to see, how working with staff, they can use the games as a platform to inspire work across all areas of school.

Emily Perrott, Louis Jinkerson and Ellie Leech, made a fantastic first impression at the conference and have already started, including Josh Ives, to make plans to develop further the Olympic impact at Kesgrave High School. They were a true credit to themselves and the school, and I look forward to working with them as we count down to the games.

Kesgrave Pyramid Primary Schools Football and Netball Tournament

Just over 200 year 5 & 6 pupils from 8 of our feeder schools, enjoyed a fun filled, exciting and high quality tournament. The CSLA students arranged and ran both the Netball and Football tournaments, with real professionalism and the perfect weather added to the incredible atmosphere.

The football was played in two pools with the winners of each, meeting in a final and runners up in a 3rd / 4th play off. The standard, once again, impressed everyone and games were played with great respect and sportsmanship.

Birchwood 1 beat Bucklesham 2 – 0 to claim 3rd place, but nothing could separate Gorseland Yellow and Martlesham Beacon Hill in a very tight final. The score finished 0 – 0. Penalties proved to be a very exciting, and forced some great saves as well as the posts being hit. Just one goal secured the win for Gorseland Yellow, who retain the trophy. Well done to everyone.

The Netball played was of equal quality with all pupils proving they had worked hard to develop key skills and form a strong team understanding. By the end of a very exciting afternoon, Bucklesham were crowned Champions, closely followed by Cedarwood Blue as runners up.

Ipswich Area Badminton Tournament

Twelve pupils represented the school for the first time at the local area Badminton tournament, which is the first round of a national competition. All pupils have shown great commitment and enthusiasm at Badminton club, and jumped at the opportunity to compete for the school. The challenge to play pupils from up to 6 other local schools in an organised tournament proved to be an excellent experience. All pupils took a huge step forward in their game development through successes and defeats, and all should be proud of their performances.

Results:

  • U14 Girls (Tilly Warne, Lauren Pollexfen, Leah Collins, Emma Balmer) – 3rd
  • U14 Boys (Sam Taber, Nick Elmer, Kieran Baggott, Matt Griggs) – 3rd
  • U16 Boys (Luke Giles, Simon Kirby, Matt Eaves, Rhys Lewington) – 3rd

The CSLA deliver a festival of fun!

During the morning of Nov 3rd, the CSLA students ran a multi-skills festival for around 200 yr 1 pupils, from 7 of our feeder primary schools. This was the first time the students had to put their leadership skills to the test with a group of younger children, and they all showed incredible energy, enthusiasm and confidence.

Ipswich Area Table Tennis Tournament

For possibly the first time ever, Kesgrave High School, fielded two Table Tennis teams in the local area tournament, playing against other schools in the Ipswich area. The eight boys, making up U13 and U16 teams, have shown huge commitment and enthusiasm over the past few years, developing their skills and tactics with local coach and parent, Mr Branton.

The club has up to 20 members of varying abilities and continues to provide an enjoyable and valuable experience into the phenomenally fast and technical world of Table Tennis. For most of the players, this was their first taste of competition outside of the club, and all rose to the challenge superbly. Many of the games were very close, and even after a loss the boys still took away a valuable experience which will help them develop in the future.

Both teams came second in their respective leagues, and just missed out on qualifying for the next round (county schools). This is a fantastic achievement.

Results:

  • U13 Sam Byford, Jonny Linard, Peter Farthing, Alex Moore.
  • U16 Marcus Taylor, Josh Vincent, Elliott Jimpson, Stephen Farr.

Discovery Day at David Lloyd

The Mayor of Ipswich opened the events along with a samba band who continued to play all day, which gave the whole event a rhythm/beat. We arrived with a depleted team; however the pupils that did attend were polite, extremely well behaved and participated in all events with a great deal of enthusiasm. Events included Sports Hall Athletics, Samba-Samba Football, Circus Skills, Rock-It-Ball and Wheelchair Basketball.

KHS sailed through qualifying rounds to reach the semi final stages of Boccia and faced Thurleston High School. KHS were victorious and reached the final due to stunning throws from Louis Fitzgerald, Maria Silburn, Harry Midgley and George Lewington. The final was an epic encounter between Claydon High School and KHS, the match was levelled at 4-4, until Stephan Farr and Matthew Rattle stepped up to bowl superb shots and KHS were victorious winning 5-4 in sudden death. KHS also reached the semi final of Rocket Ball, but unfortunately lost to Copleston High School perhaps due to poor point observational scoring from the umpires. The KHS players informed the referee at half time but he was having none of it.

Overall the whole day was a brilliant success with everybody enjoying the event!
