NEWS FLASH...KHS achieves 'GREEN FLAG' status!

After a gruelling assessment KHS is proud to announce that we have officially been given the full Eco-Schools Green Flag award. We are the first secondary school in the whole of East Anglia to achieve this status which is a remarkable achievement. This award is recognition of how far we have come as a school community in developing the sustainability agenda.

The Eco Schools Assessor visited us on 3rd December and met the Eco Team. We get the Green Flag!He was very impressed with the level of enthusiasm and commitment the students showed to environmental improvement, demonstrating a real desire to involve the wider community in green issues and their school. He commented on their hard work and dedication, as well as the impact their work was having on the whole school community. Our assessor concluded that the Eco Schools project here at Kesgrave was one of the best he had seen in any High School, especially in terms of how everyone in the school has responded and supported it. It is clear that the whole school community is on board and wanting to make a difference.

A big thank you to every one who has been gardening, conserving butterflies, conserving the SSSI woodland, recycling, cycling, eating healthily, turning off computers, playing sport etc. Every student has played a part in this project, however big or small and everyone should be proud that they were a part of KHS achieving this prestigious award.

A special thank you has to be given to the Eco-School team for their outstanding commitment and hard work to this project. It was because of them that this project reached such great things in such a short amount of time!

Also a big thank you to all of the members of staff who were part of this project, especially Miss Jones, Miss Sanderson, Miss Harvey, Mrs Suett, Mr Harris and Ms Breckell, who gave up lots of their time to support both the students and myself.

The next step is to keep the momentum of the project going and to maintain the environmental ethos that KHS has adopted. I have a feeling that this won't be difficult as many projects are already in progress and many more are about to begin! Keep your eyes and ears open for news on these projects and feel free to get involved.
