Roles and Responsibility at KHS
Apart from dividing the school horizontally into years, it is also divided vertically into five Houses: Bader, Hillary, Keller, Nuffield and Royal. The House names reflect 20th Century contemporary figures who have excelled in various areas of achievement, both personal and public.
The Houses are led by members of Staff, one of whom is the the Head of House, and they are helped by the Senior House Captains and Vice-Captains who are elected from Year 10 and Junior House Captains and Vice-Captains who are elected from Year 8.
The House system is a vital and very successful part of the school pastoral system. The ethos of the school is reinforced by a variety of House activities, including inter-House competitions. The system of House Credits enables staff to reward pupils' efforts, initiative and helpfulness. These House Credits are collated weekly and a House Credits Shield is presented termly to the winning House.
Certificates of Merit are also presented for exceptional contributions to the school, in the regular House Assemblies.
All members of staff are attached to Houses. The school duty system is organised around the Houses, with the House Staff forming daily duty teams together with the School Prefects.
