Year 9 STEM Day
48year 9 students took part in designing, building and testing a Super Capacitor Car. In teams of 5 they had to design a car that would go over a hilly course and also go fast in a drag race. Students were judged on the car’s performance but also on team work, the look of the car, the marketing message (they has to advertise the car and explain its key features) and work out the cost of all the components.
The day was run by the SMALLPIECE Trust - founded by a benefactor, Mr Smallpeice who left a large legacy to encourage young people to take up science and engineering.
The winning team was an all-girl team – quite an achievement when there were only 8 girls and 40 boys! Well done.
